New Movie Releases – October 21, 2016

There’s something for everyone in this week’s new movie releases.

This week’s releases include Blue Jasmine, Captain Phillips, In a World…, Best Man Down and other recent box office hits.

New Movie Releases – 1/21/16

Blue Jasmine (+UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]

After everything in her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin), elegant New York socialite Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), moves into her sister Ginger’s (Sally Hawkins) modest apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together again.

Charlie Countryman [Blu-ray]

When his late mother appears in a vision and tells him to go to Bucharest, Charlie immediately boards a plane across the Atlantic. But when he meets a fellow passenger, Charlie finds himself with another promise to fulfill.

Captain Phillips (Two Disc Combo: Blu-ray / DVD + UltraViolet Digital Copy)

‘Captain Phillips’ is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. It is – through director Paul Greengrass’s distinctive lens – simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller, and a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two time Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage.

Machete Kills (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD with UltraViolet)

In ‘Machete Kills,’ Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man — he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

Paris Countdown

Unable to repay their debts, Milan and Victor, best friends and co-owners of a Paris nightclub are lured into a drug deal that goes bad. Tortured by police, they negotiate their freedom against an overwhelming testimony that condemns their psychotic liaison to prison. Six years later, the men’s nightmare begins again when the psychopath is granted his freedom.

Starving Games

The Date Movie spoofsters are at it again, this time with their eyes set on The Hunger Games in this Safran Company parody. Maiara Walsh and Brant Daugherty head up the starring cast. This story follows Kantmiss Evershot as she competes in a deadly competition, the winner of which will receive an old ham and a coupon.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy [Blu-ray]

Lake Bell (“Children’s Hospital”) stars in ‘In a World…’, a hilarious romantic comedy about a struggling vocal coach who strikes it big in the cutthroat world of movie-trailer voiceovers, only to find herself in direct competition with the industry’s reigning king-her father.

Bad Milo! [Blu-ray]

Duncan’s (Ken Marino) life is a real pain in the ass. Tormented by a manipulative, crooked boss (Patrick Warburton), a nagging mother (Mary Kay Place), a deadbeat new age dad (Stephen Root), and a sweet, yet pressuring, wife (Gillian Jacobs), his mounting stress starts to trigger an insufferable gastrointestinal reaction. Out of ideas and at the end of his rope, Duncan seeks the help of a hypnotherapist (P$Peter Stormare), who helps him discover the root of his unusual stomach pain: a pintsized demon living in his intestine that, triggered by excessive anxiety, forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him.

Best Man Down

When their obnoxious and over-served best man, Lumpy (Labine) unexpectedly dies at their destination wedding in Phoenix, bride and groom Kristin (Weixler) and Scott (Long) are forced to cancel their honeymoon and fly home to the snowy Midwest to arrange for his funeral. But when they arrive they realize that there was a lot more to their friend than met the eye.
